Executive Director

Position Overview

This is a rare opportunity: to lead a global movement at a moment when it is ready to grow, and to shape what careful and kind care looks like for millions of people, in dozens of countries, for years to come.

As Executive Director, you'll provide the leadership, operational stewardship, and financial care that lets this movement accelerate its impact. The role gives you the chance to represent TPR to the world, to focus our energy and resources on the priorities that matter most, to build the donor relationships that sustain this work, and to weave together a growing, global network of allies who share our belief that care is the point of healthcare.

The Movement You Would Be Joining

TPR isn't starting from an idea — it's leading a movement that's already taking root. More than 3,200 people across 43 countries have joined our community, 250 have completed our Foundations of Care training, and 140 have stepped forward as Fellows carrying this work into their own spheres of influence. Careful and kind care is now embedded in the curriculum at more than a dozen universities, and its language has shaped national health policy — including the Chief Medical Officer of Scotland's annual report to the NHS. More than 150 Mini-Revolutions have already turned belief into action, at every scale from a single conversation to new models of care.

This movement is up against an enormous challenge, and the need for change is urgent. This is a role for a leader who wants to meet that scale of challenge with the scale of ambition it deserves.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a nonprofit leader who brings both the character and the track record this moment calls for.

The qualities:

  • Values-driven leadership that embodies TPR's principles of generosity, curiosity, and carefulness;

  • An entrepreneurial and innovative spirit;

  • A genuine ability to embrace and elevate diverse perspectives and agendas;

  • Comfort and confidence speaking publicly;

  • An eagerness to build new relationships — with allies today, and allies we haven't met yet — to grow the global movement for care;

  • Financial acumen and resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt when revenue challenges arise.

The experience:

  • Leading and developing effective teams

  • Strategic planning

  • Fundraising and donor cultivation

  • Financial management and stewardship

  • Building and sustaining relationships — engaging and activating volunteers, community organizing, board relations and board committee stewardship, and international collaborations and partnerships

  • Verbal and written communication, including public speaking, marketing, and communications

  • Program development and implementation

This is an exciting role for a mission-oriented leader who is dedicated to radical change in healthcare worldwide, and who believes that the future of healthcare can and must be imagined by a community of people with diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise coming together to advance our mission: to turn away from industrialized healthcare and toward careful and kind care for everyone, everywhere.

About The Patient Revolution

The Patient Revolution (TPR) is the not-for-profit, organizational backbone of a global movement for care in healthcare, uniting patients, clinicians, caregivers, educators, and others to reject the industrialization of healthcare, and instead work together to imagine, build, and steward a healthcare capable of enabling careful and kind care for all.

Industrial healthcare is marked by productivity-first hurry, blur, and burden—outcomes of a system that prioritizes profitability in processing people over caring for, about, or with them. Careful and kind care is realized when care takes place in unhurried conversations in which care plans are formed and revised to maximally respond to each patient's problematic situation, reflect their goals and priorities, and minimally disrupt their lives and loves.

  • Our movement is rooted in the belief that care is the core purpose of healthcare.

  • We judge industrialized healthcare as financially, environmentally, and critically, humanly unsustainable as it overwhelms patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

  • We advocate for radical change not incremental improvement or optimization or individual advocacy as these methods maintain industrialized healthcare unchanged.

  • We depend on our global community of care activists, learning from their actions, everywhere, building on a community of people from all experiences, expertise, and roles in a collective vision to advance careful and kind care for all.

TPR activates its community through three primary programs: The School, which includes on-line and in-person curricula; The Community—an inclusive network of more than 3,500 constituents in 43 countries and 140 Fellows who serve as ambassadors for the organization; and, The Greenhouse, a think-and-do tank that houses the story library, designs and tests new tools and models of care with partners for change, and supports local action and evaluation.
