Stacie Rorhbach

Stacie Rohrbach is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University. She teaches seminar- and studio-based courses in communication, information, and learning design across all levels of the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. Throughout her tenure, Stacie has been significantly involved in curriculum development, served on numerous school and university committees, and held positions on national design organization boards and committees. As Director of Graduate Studies, she currently guides and oversees the design and delivery of curricula across three master’s programs, comprised of approximately 50 students and fifteen faculty, which include the Master of Arts in Design (MA), Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Design for Interactions, and Master of Design (MDes) in Design for Interactions.
Situated in formal and informal learning contexts, Stacie’s research investigates the design of learning experiences as complex systems. Stacie actively engages with student teams and project sponsors, applying innovative learning theories to contemporary challenges. Stacie and her collaborators leverage design to harness the attention of learners, motivate them to engage in experiences, and aid their memory of lessons learned in ways that are enjoyable and meaningful, with her recent efforts focused specifically on aiding the understanding and treatment of eating disorders. Stacie’s research projects are published in books, international journals, and conference proceedings and have been supported by the National Science Foundation, Qatar National Research Foundation, Fine Foundation, Institute of Education Science, and corporate grants.
